One oikos Associate Fellowships on Sustainability and Digitalization

Christoph Rappitsch, oikos Associate 2016

Christoph Rappitsch, oikos Associate 2016

One Scholarship | 6 months | St. Gallen

In 2016, oikos invited the first Associate to conduct in-depth research on a current topic: Digital Economy and Sustainability. While compiling a comprehensive report on the challenges and opportunities of digitalization, he also organized three topical events.

“I think the future is very bright, as the positive effects of digitalization dominate. In fact, the negative sides could eventually be eliminated – if policy makers and businesses work together and adopt the new technologies in a responsible and sustainable way.” – Christoph Rappitsch, oikos Associate 2016

More than Twenty Research Papers on the oikos PRME Research Hub

oikos Members collaborate at the FutureLab 2016
Despite the trend: Writing a thesis or dissertation on a sustainability topic is still a niche in economics and management sciences. This is why we promote the pioneers in their work by connecting the authors and sharing their work on the oikos PRME research hub. The UN initiative Principles for Responsible Management Education joined us towards the very end of the year and we hope it is only the start of a deep cooperation. Learn more about the hub and the existing library here.

oikos Journeys

Marek Zeleniak, Co-Organiser, oikos CEE Meeting 2016; President, oikos Bratislava, Slovakia

“At the beginning I told myself: it would be fantastic to prepare the oikos CEE Meeting with my chapter. We had to work a lot, but we received more!”
Marek Zeleniak, Co-Organiser, oikos CEE Meeting 2016; President, oikos Bratislava, Slovakia

Anna Beyer, Facilitator, oikos Summer School 2016; EB Member, oikos International; Member, COMMIT

“To us, COMMIT, the Summer School showed how all kinds of amazing people around the world working on a common goal can make a difference and transform our education system into a more sustainable and wholesome learning opportunity for us all.”
Anna Beyer, Facilitator, oikos Summer School 2016; EB Member, oikos International; Member, COMMIT

Niels Rot, Alumnus, oikos St Gallen; Co-founder, Impact Hub Zurich, Switzerland

“One of the greatest things of my oikos days was the community of oikees with similar values and dreams for changing society. I am sure that without this support, I would not have gone the journey to become a (social) entrepreneur and co-found the Impact Hub Zurich.”
Niels Rot, Alumnus, oikos St Gallen; Co-founder, Impact Hub Zurich, Switzerland

Maria Pinkser, Vice-President, oikos Paderborn 2016; Co-Organiser, Germany Meeting 2016

“It was a challenging time as vice-president of oikos Paderborn but I am still convinced that they were some of the most influential years in my life. I truly hope that many of my fellow students were inspired by our values and realized that there are other people supporting the same ideas as them.”
Maria Pinkser, Vice-President, oikos Paderborn 2016; Co-Organiser, Germany Meeting 2016

Helen Toxopeus, Participant, oikos PhD Academy 2016; PhD Student, ‎Erasmus School of Economics, Netherlands

“The oikos finance seminar was one of the best experiences in my PhD so far: well-organized, an interesting research network both in terms of peers and faculty and relevant feedback on my academic work. I highly recommend it for sustainable finance scholars.”

Helen Toxopeus, Participant, oikos PhD Academy 2016; PhD Student, Erasmus School of Economics, Netherlands

Fanny Bancourt, Co-Organiser, oikos Spring Meeting 2016; President 2016/17, oikos Lille, France

“The [Spring Meeting] remained full of encounters and discoveries. It showed me that oikos is not only about sharing ideas and promoting sustainability but is also about implicating ourselves and working with people, from our chapter or from the international community. During these four days, I was glad to meet interesting people (speakers and participants) that shared with me their passion and their experiences and I enjoyed eye-opening discussions with the speakers and the executive board about oikos Lille’s opportunities.”

Fanny Bancourt, Co-Organiser, oikos Spring Meeting 2016; President 2016/17, oikos Lille, France

Christopher Burgahn, Member of the FutureLab Team 2016

“It was my honor organizing the FutureLab and being part of the great international team. Not only the topic but also the people involved in making this conference a memorable one, helped me to grow in very many ways. A heartfelt thanks to everyone, who was part of it.”

Christopher Burgahn, Member of the FutureLab Team 2016

Asia Meet

“Trying to organize a platform for people across the globe to meet in Asia was a very huge task but the entire organizing team proved that it was possible with the most tedious of efforts. We saw many amazing people coming up with brilliant ideas and suggestions on sustainable development, and the true success of the oikos Asia Meet 2016 stemmed out of this very fact that sustainability found many more hands to help it grow. Although we faced our fair share of difficulties, in the end it was all a worthy learning experience.”

Asia Meet

Christoph Rappitsch, oikos Associate for Digital Economy and Sustainability

“I want to thank the people at oikos and Engagement Migros for giving me this great opportunity to do research on the Digital Economy and Sustainability. And I would like to close with a quote from Bill Gates: “The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don’t really even notice it, so it’s part of everyday life.”

Christoph Rappitsch, oikos Associate for Digital Economy and Sustainability

Tomasz Wegyrzn, Participant, LEAP Intermediate 2016; Member, oikos Opole, Poland

“LEAP Intermediate was absolutely one of the most inspiring events of my life. During this short period I have seen passion and involvement. These two words really describe this time. It was amazing. When I looked at everyone and saw that they do this because they really want to do something, change something, with you everything seems easier. I felt that I can also do this. If you want to feel this you must join!”

Tomasz Wegyrzn, Participant, LEAP Intermediate 2016; Member, oikos Opole, Poland
