Can the World Run on Renewables?

Technological advancements have made renewable energy sources, especially wind and solar, cheaper and more versatile to use. In a short period of time, solar has become the cheapest generator of electricity in some sunny places like Chile and Saudi Arabia – and it may well undercut coal in global average prices in a matter of years.

Will these developments lead to a global energy revolution? Or this is a faint hope?

Can electricity production become a driver for green growth? Or is this a feel-good story from policy makers? And if it’s not, what are the framework developments in finance, policy, and research that need to be met?

To discuss this, three experts and oikos alumni will sit down on February 23rd with Benedikt Lemke, wind engineer and active oikos alumnus, in an online debate:

  • Nils Bennemann, Greencoat Capital
  • Aanal Patwari, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority
  • Ralph Ripken, E4Tech
