Re-defining Sustainability at the oikos Germany Meeting

oikos members gathered at the second oikos Germany Meeting (2015) and stirred up a discussion about definitions of sustainability. Set in Leipzig, the Germany Meeting was given the topic of “Re-thinking Sustainability”. More than 45 oikees from German speaking countries to explore views, attitudes and practices on individual approaches towards sustainability. oikos Leipzig prepared a two-day program full of interactive  sessions amongst oikees accompanied by wasted (and re-utilised) vegan food. The Germany Meeting kicked-off on May 29th with a dinner, followed by an introductory talk by the oikos President, Anita Negri, recalling oikos values and spirit. Faculty from Portland State University, Rotterdam School of Management and IBS Hyderabad win first prizes in oikos Case Writing Competition

We are proud to announce the winners of this year’s oikos Case Writing Competition: the first prize in the Corporate Sustainability track is awarded to Madeleine Pullman, Jacen Greene, Devin Liebmann, Nga Ho and Xan Pedisich from Portland State University (US) for their case “Hopworks Urban Brewery: A Case of Sustainable Beer”. In the Social Entrepreneurship track, the first prize goes to “Fairphone: Organising for Sustained Social Impact” by Onajomo Akemu and Gail Whiteman from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (Netherlands). oikos Board of Trustees Member Publishes Book on the Creation of Money

Mathias Binswanger is a Professor of Economics at the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz in Olten. Mathias has been an oikos Trustee for many years and just published a new book to add to his collection. “Money out of Nothing” sheds light on the often invisible banking system and its creation of money through lending. Professor Binswanger, further, highlights that most of the money created by banks today results in the purchase of securities, or other assets, which consequently generates speculative bubbles and financial crises. The book is currently only available in German.
