We are a global network of students striving to make a change for sustainability. In our local groups, oikos Chapters, we work together with university staff and our alumni to have an impact on campus & beyond. Our student members organize in local chapters to drive change on their campuses. The wealth of knowledge and experiences that other members and alumni bring fosters both personal and organizational growth. As an oikos Chapter member, you can meet like-minded people, acquire knowledge and become part of a change-maker community.
An oikos chapter is a local, self-organised group of students that comes together to organise sustainability initiatives and change their own education at their local campus. oikos chapters can look very different as they emerge from the individual university context. They differ in size, organisational structure, formal conditions and their focus topics. Being an oikos chapter enables your team of student change agents to systematically transform your university environment and benefit from the support and the collective intelligence of the international oikos community.
What makes oikos special is the diverse group of inspiring mindsets involved: in every context you will meet people with similar values and ambitions: oikees (that’s how we call the student-members), alumni, advisors, the international team and external partners who are looking forward to collaborate & share their knowledge!
oikos members and associates feel passionate about sustainability and are renowned as action-oriented experts in the field. The community has access to and co-creates a broad spectrum of international projects and events that invite them to grow personally, share knowledge and exchange opinions and ideas.
Being joined by the drive to contribute to positive system change allows all involved individuals to be on a collective journey which is not only at the heart of their interest – but also fun and empowering.
oikees are part of a network of change agents and have the opportunity to meet like-minded people from multiple academic and cultural backgrounds. There are multiple ways to take part, get involved and stay updated- for example through the monthly newsletter, the interaction within the regions and your commitment on the international level. During our home-made conferences and events, you can feel the vibrant pulse of our community on-site.
The oikos community hosts an average of five international conferences for its members per year in different regions of the world. The topics dealt with in these conferences relate to sustainability and are most often linked to economics and management. oikos members are welcome to attend these meetings at a low expense and are encouraged to discover new cities whilst gaining inspiration from external partners and their oikos mates.
One of oikos’ focus is to empower students to develop their personal capabilities, competences, reflection skills and world view. By executing projects, attending oikos events and joining programmes like our leadership training LEAP, oikos members have the opportunity to learn and develop in a trusted and motivating environment.
When joining oikos conferences and organizing local and international projects, oikees are directly confronted with well-renowned business practitioners and academia in the field of sustainability.
Whereas our community itself holds the key to the next generation of responsible leaders towards sustainability, these contacts can give you insights into the current situation on the market, they might inspire your vision with their experience and opinions and may also support you in finding your next profession. There is also a job platform on our intranet, where we regularly share upcoming opportunities

University and business schools students organize on their local campuses, creating projects that contribute to oikos mission and vision. Each chapter is unique and shaped by the it’s student members and the local context. Varying in size and structure, they reflect the ideals and aspirations of it’s members and represent living organisms constantly reinventing themselves and adapting to the current local and global dynamic. oikos International plays a supportive role to oikos Chapters, providing experience and expertise, as well as resources that help student members learn, develop their leadership skills and create local impact, while connecting with their peers from across the world.

If you are a student looking to join this network and bring oikos to your university, the number one thing you need is motivation! It’s something shared with all oikos students: you want to not only see the change on your campus, but are also prepared to take on the role of a change agent! That means being ready to take action, to be the catalyst, reach out and team up with those who share your vision, and make a collective move towards it. To support this process and guide student through it, we have created oikos Chapter Incubator!
The Chapter Incubator supports students in starting a new oikos chapter by developing the essential skills needed to build an impact-driven organization and community within their university. Students learn how to identify opportunities for change on their campus, bring together a committed team, articulate a shared purpose, and design initiatives that respond to the needs and dynamics of the context they are in. Throughout the program, they explore how universities function as systems, practice collaborative decision-making, and gain hands-on experience in turning ideas into impactful action. The Incubator equips students to create something that lasts: an engaged chapter with the confidence, clarity, and structure to begin shaping positive change in their learning environment.
