Last Saturday was a day for an oikos Community gathering as we hosted a Chapter Handover Lab as a space to exchange best practices between chapters, along with the guidance from oikos International through facilitation.
Handover particularly refers to the transitional period that every chapter goes through between one Board or President’s mandate ending and another one begins. This often presents a challenge for the chapter, as with the sheer scope of things that need to be handed over to the new leadership, it’s easy for knowledge to slip, get overlooked or be lost in the process. This way, the chapter leadership can invest much of their energy into finding a solution in situations where they could’ve learnt from their predecessors’ similar cases.
The session was designed to be very participatory, as oikees were eager to engage and discuss dos and don’ts of chapter handovers through reflecting on their own experiences and needs that had arisen in the past in these transitional periods. This not only meant oikees learning from each other, but laid the foundations for the future project – the creation of a community toolkit, specially designed to minimize the challenges that arise from the handover and make the entire process as smooth as possible.
Stay tuned for more as we develop the toolkit for all chapters to use and enrich their handovers with best practices!
