Integrated Project: Track 2 – Pylon Network

Due to the energy industry’s high entry barriers, the adoption of available advanced technologies, such as smart meters and energy efficiency improvements, are slowed down. The Spain based startup, Pylon Network, is aiming to disrupt the industry by decentralizing the energy sector by creating an open-source database based on blockchain technology, which will be used to construct a digital energy marketplace that connects energy providers directly with the final consumer. In order to reach its goals, Pylon needs access to data. As a result, Pylon will need to develop a strategy which outlines its approach to data access in a socially and financially sustainable way.

To help Pylon develop its strategy and approach to obtain the desired data, track 2 participants will get the chance to interact with representatives from various parts of the energy industry’s value chain to get a better understanding of the challenges Pylon is facing, but also what opportunities and markets the company should exploit. As a reward for the group with the best solution, the three members get the opportunity to present their idea at Pylon’s headquarter in Spain and network with the management of the company during their three day stay.

About the Integrated Project:

The Integrated Project is a new initiative by oikos Copenhagen aimed at facilitating collaboration between companies and ambitious students on solving sustainability challenges. It’s an opportunity for leading companies to find case-specific solutions for their issues as well as the possibility to get in touch with potential talent and for students to gain real-life experience within the field of sustainability.

There will be four tracks that are each hosted by a company that introduces a unique challenge, where students will try to solve the problem during four workshops over the span of two semesters. The content and structure of these workshops will vary depending on the track, but participants will gain new skills and knowledge that will help them solve the challenge before them. Once all workshops are completed, groups will present their solutions at a final event before a panel of judges, where one group from each track is declared the winner and receives an award.

There will be a total of 12 available participation seats in each track, where students from different universities around the Copenhagen area will be divided into four groups of three based on their experience and academic background. The duration of each workshop will on average last for around four hours and includes activities such as design thinking, interaction with project stakeholders, field trips, communication and presentation exercises, as well as feedback sessions.
