    Achievements and Development

    Already, this initiative has allowed our team to meet with several town businesses as well as the University Sustainability Coordinator to discuss their efforts toward sustainability across a load of different criteria, with special attention being drawn to our pilot organisation, a cafe called Zest, which specializes in energy efficiency, fair trade products/coffees, as well as incredible EDI in their workforce, having hired people with disabilities as well as ex-convicts, helping them to reach their potential in a supportive work environment. If not for GreenMap, these initiatives may go unnoticed and thus the platform will serve as a way to showcase Zest’ incredible business protocols, and maybe even inspire others to do the same!!

    The idea for GreenMap can be attributed to 4th year St Andrews student Oilver Walter, a dedicated oikee who initially pitched the idea to current President Madeleine Bruce in summer of 2022. As oikos started the 2022-2023 academic year, GreenMap was made a priority project as its unique concept and potential for impact was an enticing and exciting opportunity which the team at oikos St Andrews dove into full steam ahead. In addition to Madeleine and Oliver leading the platform’s development, GreenMap has been brought to fruition by a wonderful project team of 5 key individuals, including our new president Verity and new VP Aditya. Combined with a diverse male/female team from over three different countries, GreenMap has been the definition of a collaborative initiative.

    Throughout the incredible journey that has been the development of this project, ie. taking it from Oliver’s brain child to a real life platform to a force for making an active difference in our community, what is even more special is that the team at oikos St Andrews has set up a sustainable leadership structure to govern the future of the of platform so that it can continue as an independent entity all while operating under the onsite facilitation/supervision of oikos st andrews to continue well into the long term, forever putting St Andrews, and its efforts toward sustainability, on the maps of change agents everywhere.
