Imagine this: Graz, Austria. A room full of creative minds, determination, and a shared vision for a better future. That was Impacthon 2024 – a three-day innovation marathon organized by oikos Consulting, an NGO with the mission of holistically preparing students as sustainability consultants. From November 7 to 9, young people, companies, and creative thinkers came together to solve some of the world’s most pressing sustainability problems – and the results were truly impressive.
The Beginning of an Impact Movement
Impacthon wasn’t just another event. It was a statement – a movement. Imagine bold ideas, real collaboration, and solutions that leave a lasting impression. It wasn’t about brainstorming in isolation. It was about bringing different minds together and showing that magic happens when we work together.
And you know what? That’s exactly what happened.
How It Went
Day 1: The kick-off at IDea_Lab was full of energy. From initial brainstorming sessions to mentoring and even a workshop for sustainable cocktails – creativity met fun and innovative inspiration.
Day 2: Things got real at the Science Park: Workshops on the perfect pitch and feedback sessions helped the teams refine their visionary solutions.
Day 3: The final pitches were held at Unicorn – in front of a distinguished jury. Afterward, the Impacthon community celebrated the winning teams and the success of the event at the closing ceremony.
Which Challenges Were Solved?
Four real challenges awaited the teams, each focused on sustainability:
- Just Streets (Romania): Redesigning urban spaces to strengthen trust within the community.
- Vienna AirportCity: Developing climate-neutral solutions for the city surrounding the airport – from urban greenery to CO₂ reduction.
- Gemüsebau Janisch: Optimizing sustainable agriculture – with a focus on logistics and strategy development.
- Next Incubator: Creating strategies for more visibility and partnerships in the sustainability sector.

After three intense days, the winning teams were announced:
- 1st Place: A team that advanced the climate neutrality of Vienna AirportCity with visionary approaches.
- 2nd Place: A solution for Urban Future that strengthened visibility and collaboration within the sustainability community.
- 3rd Place: Creative strategies for sustainable agriculture at Gemüsebau Janisch.
