João is a Brazilian researcher in the field of development economics. Throughout both his undergraduate studies in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and Erasmus Mundus Masters degree in the University of Paris, he manifested a strong interest in the intersection between Development Macroeconomics and Political Economy due to the important external constraints posed to national development in Brazil. Delving deeper into these fields, in 2017 he joined a research group on Chinese Political Economy and started learning mandarin right after a his first experience in China. From then onwards, he decided to specialize in development studies focusing on inequality and sustainable finance in the BRICS countries. This choice took him on a wonderful academic journey that expanded his comprehension of development by being exposed to multicultural academic environments in Rio, Shanghai, Berlin, Johannesburg and Paris.
