XLRI SIGMA-oikos Celebrates the Spirit of Giving with Daan Utsav 2024
Back in October, XLRI Jamshedpur’s SIGMA-oikos committee concluded the 16th edition of Daan Utsav, a week-long celebration of community engagement and service. Now in its 20th year, the committee organized a series of impactful initiatives, reaffirming XLRI’s commitment to creating a compassionate and sustainable future.
It began with a remarkable Blood Donation Drive that collected over 80 units of blood, setting the tone for a week dedicated to service, community engagement, and the enduring spirit of giving.
The Wish Tree initiative brought joy and hope by fulfilling the heartfelt wishes of children and families through the generosity of 180+ contributors. In collaboration with NGOs like People for Change, Shiva Educational Trust, and Sahyog Village, over ₹1.3 Lakhs were raised, touching lives with the spirit of giving.
Addressing essential needs, the Cloth Donation Drive collected over 15,000 clothing items from campus members and partner institutions. These donations extended warmth and comfort to under-resourced communities in nine villages, showcasing the power of collective compassion.
Promoting health and dignity, the Menstrual Awareness Drive, held in partnership with the Robinhood Army and Koru Foundation, educated over 200 women in Gitilata village, Potka, on menstrual health and distributed sustainable cloth pad kits.
Through the Gift of Time initiative, student volunteers brought companionship and emotional support to over 160 elderly and specially-abled residents at R.P. Patel Cheshire Home and Nirmal Hriday, enriching lives with meaningful human connections.
A partnership with Udaan supported visually impaired artisans, enabling them to set up festive stalls for handmade candles, diyas, and snacks during Diwali and Christmas. This initiative fostered economic empowerment and an inclusive festive experience.
Daan Utsav 2024 showcased the unwavering dedication of XLRI’s students, faculty, and partners to community service and social impact. The event stands as a testament to the institution’s mission of nurturing socially conscious leaders who strive for a better tomorrow.
