Overview

oikos Vienna is a student-driven organization for sustainable economics and management at the Vienna University for Economics and Business. The goal is to empower future leaders to drive change towards sustainability. oikos Vienna provides platforms for learning, creating and sharing solutions. Conferences, seminars, speeches, simulation games and other initiatives focusing on different aspects of sustainable development are organized. oikos also promotes the integration of sustainability in curricula.

Economics as the ‘science of household economy’ and ecology as the ‘science of ecosystems’ have their common etymological root in the Greek word ‘oikos’. The founding members took this name to show the common origin of economy and the environment. With time, the field of interest became broader including topics of social responsibility. Nowadays, oikos stands for collegiate commitment to economical, ecological and social sustainability.

oikos Vienna ist part of the international student organization oikos which was founded in 1987 in Switzerland. Currently 40 chapters around the world  are part of the network and meet regularly. They are supported by a global community of oikos alumni, advisors, faculty, and partners.
