Join the 2027 oikos Board

We are looking for passionate, proactive people who want to step into global leadership with oikos!

If you love our community of student change agents, want to turn strategies into action, and grow your skills while making a tangible impact — your next challenge starts here:

Join the Board of oikos International!

This is your opportunity to work alongside a diverse team of individuals from around the globe, acquire hands-on experience in an influential non-profit organization and make an impact!

What is the oikos Board & how do we work?

We are the elected group that steers oikos International’s strategy and inspires our community to live our shared purpose and values. As a Board member, you represent oikos globally, working closely with the co-presidents, team, and chapters. We co-create, we collaborate, and we keep our work grounded in what the community needs most.

What are the main roles & responsibilities of a Board member?

As a Board member, you…

  • Stay connected with the community, regularly checking in with chapter reps,
  • Co-create strategic directions and make sure they’re carried through,
  • Represent oikos at international events and with partners,
  • Oversee impact, share it with our community and partners, and celebrate wins,
  • Take on specific hands-on roles that match our strengths and help the team thrive,

Alongside these general duties, each Board member takes up a hands-on supportive role within a specific field that utilizes their talents best and creates experience through practice. These roles are decided upon by the Board Members themself at the beginning of the term through self-organizing and deciding which fits each individual Board member. These conversations aim at co-creating commitments that highlight our strengths while covering all fields of responsibility. One Board member can cover several of these additional roles, according to their availability and scope of commitment.

Areas you could take the lead in:

  • Fundraising: We’re looking for relationship-builders and organizers who can help us bring in resources through grants, campaigns, and partnerships,
  • Communication & Marketing: We tell the oikos story, online and offline, so it inspires, connects, and reaches the right people,
  • Impact Measurement: We track and share the change we create as a community, using data, stories, and a bit of creative flair,
  • Organizational & People Development: We keep our team healthy, our structures clear, and our culture vibrant,
  • Legal Matters: We make sure our governance is solid, our meetings run smoothly, and our constitution stays relevant,
  • IT & Tools: We keep our digital house in order, from data security to making our workflows smooth and effective,
  • Projects: We keep bringing new projects and programs to life, and you can take part in shaping and managing them from idea to reality.

You don’t need to be an expert in these areas before joining — you just need curiosity, dedication, and the willingness to learn.

What’s in it for you?

  • A seat at the table shaping an international movement,
  • A high-performing, multicultural team that challenges and supports you,
  • Leadership, strategy, and communication skills you’ll use for life,
  • Global networks of students, academics, and professionals,
  • Opportunities for professional coaching and unique gatherings (online & onsite),

What you bring – Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Strong commitment to oikos’s purpose, mission, and vision,
  • You’re a current student or recent graduate,
  • Proven experience either in a local oikos Chapter, as part of the oikos International team or a Community working group, squad or project,
  • You can commit to one year (plus a short handover period) and ~15h/month,
  • You’re fluent in English (B2),
  • You’re open-minded, collaborative, and ready to co-create,
  • You can join our regular calls and annual meetings.

How to apply? 4 simple steps!

If you are interested in applying, please fill in this form by Sunday, 27 September at 11:59 pm CEST. Next to some general information about you, you will have to upload:

  • Your curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages);
  • A motivational letter stating why you wish to apply, how you want to make a difference, the skills and experiences you will bring to oikos, and a brief summary of your time availability over the next one year. You can also share your motivation for certain roles you might be interested in, knowing that you won’t be elected for any of them, but as a Board member in general (max. 2 pages);
  • A short 100-word biography and a picture to be put on the oikos website.
  • A 3-to-5-minute video to introduce your candidature to the Legislative Assembly and your vision for oikos in general and the roles you could imagine to fulfill as an oikos International Board member.

Once the application deadline closes, we will share all information with our community as preparation for the Legislative Meeting where the new Board will be elected. Documents (except the short biography) won’t be published on our website and are only accessible to community members/representatives on our Google Drive.

All applicants are then required to join the virtual Legislative Meeting on 11 October via Zoom in order to take part in a panel conversation, defend their application and run for election. The election of the Board members is a democratic process involving all chapters holding the status of a full membership.

We have prepared two info calls for anyone interested in learning more about the Board and discussing it with the current oikos Co-Presidents and Board Members. Find what time works best for you and join us on these dates:

First Info Call: 14 August, 12PM CEST

Second Info Call: 14 September, 6PM CEST

If you can’t make it to the calls or have any questions – please contact us at election@oikos-international.org or reach out to any current Board member!
