Addressing sustainability and inequality at a global level : how other worlds (may) emerge

Increased global interconnectivity has encouraged a prevalence of forums that seek to organise and facilitate action on sustainability and inequality on a global scale. A body of work has examined such global forums and the theoretical contexts in which they operate but there is little which examines the nature of engagement through these forums to address issues of sustainability and inequality. This thesis explores social actors’ participation in two global forums, the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the World Social Forum (WSF), with the aim of creating more sustainable and equal worlds. The present Masters (MEng) thesis aims to analyse both qualitatively and quantitatively, the risks and opportunities arising from shale gas development in the US. The thesis draws upon multiple studies in order to identify the most prominent shale development impacts and most pressing risks. Through the literature review and Scopus database analysis, the thesis illustrates both the exponential rise in shale gas related research in the past few years and the fact that academic research has yet to catch up with the numerous challenges this industry poses. This PhD thesis examines the connections between sustainability knowledge management (SKM) and sustainability management tools in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). While previous literature has established that knowledge is essential for the application of sustainability management tools, the effects of such tools on knowledge management are under-researched in the sustainability context. Conceptual analysis of the international logistics of Daimler Trucks under the assumption of a 2° target policy

At the example of Daimler Trucks, this thesis aims at raising awareness for highly possible changes in the business environment of every major company that uses sophisticated logistic networks in order to enhance competitive advantage. Excessive emissions of GHGs, especially CO2 trigger these developments and are at the center of the thesis at hand. Part one will comprise the whole theoretical background by first introducing strong arguments of avoiding a temperature rise above 2°C.
