oikos Associate J. Christopher Proctor will lead a workshop on Pluralist Economics at oikos Maastricht on February 19.

This workshop on Pluralist Economics highlights key insights from a number of schools of economic thought and demonstrates how these diverse theories can apply to real-world economic issues. The workshop enables participants to step into the shoes of various types of economists and make speeches, act out plays and even create ‘economic’ street art.

Knowledge Exchange Visit

oikos Outreach Manager, Clémentine Robert will visit the oikos chapters in India as part of her Knowledge Exchange Expedition (KEE). She will be in New Delhi on February 19 and 20. An alumni dinner will take place on February 19 and will be hosted by oikos New Delhi and Clémentine.

The objective of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between the oikos local chapters and oikos International and seek new channels for collaboration and exchange. In addition, it wants to encourage cross-chapter projects and initiatives, reconnect alumni with chapters and bring oikos alumni closer together. 

The Knowledge Exchange Expedition (KEE)  is a completely new oikos project that aims to foster the exchanges between the perspectives of emerging countries (India) and the mindset of developed states regarding sustainability in economics and management across academia and businesses.

February will be a busy month in the oikos community!

We will kick off the oikos Asia Meet 2018 on February 9, so keep an eye on oikos Jamshedpur page,  watch lifestreams from the event and do not miss out on mind-boggling sessions. In this February edition of the oikos newsletter read about the oikos LEAP webinar on Strategy, where over 70 oikees discussed the oikos strategic priorities for 2020. In addition, learn about a series of workshops on Pluralist Economics led by oikos Associate J. Christopher Proctor.  In the remainder of the February, he will hold the workshops in Brussels, Lille, and Maastricht. Meanwhile, oikos Outreach Manager, Clémentine Robert is set to visit oikos chapters in India to strengthen the bond between oikos International and the chapters, and to reconnect oikos alumni with the chapters as well as each other.

In the oikos Alumni Portrait segment meet Renée Horster, learn how oikos influenced her perspectives and enabled her to contribute to sustainability. In our monthly segment “30 Seconds with”, former oikos Presidents, Kate Negacz and Anita Negri, shared their insights and explained what they cherish most from their experience at oikos. And while we are at it, do not forget that a call for the oikos International President 2019 & 2020 is now open and will close on February 21, 2018.

On February 13, 2018 oikos Edmonton will be showing two episodes of the Sustainable Me video series: Are We There Yet? and Econo-Me. Filmed and produced in Edmonton, the full Sustainable Me series explores what young people are doing in the fields of food, living spaces, consumerism, transportation, water, and ethics. The videos allow meeting a number of young entrepreneurs, risk takers, and educators who challenge us to explore preexisting ways of thinking and make our own organic changes to how we live.

Terri Wynnyk, executive producer of the series will join the event. He will shed some knowledge and give a backstage look into the series.

Climate Change Simulation

oikos Baku has announced the 1st Climate Change Simulation (CCS) in Azerbaijan. The CCS aims to increase climate change awareness and introduce some of the new dynamics that have emerged in the UN climate negotiations. CCS participants can investigate issues related to climate change and bring forward their solutions.

Workshop on Pluralist Economics

oikos Lille is hosting a workshop on “Pluralist Economics“ with guest speaker and oikos Associate J. Christopher Proctor. He will lead an interactive workshop which involves engaging role-playing games where students step into shoes of economists to make speeches, act out plays and even create “economic” street art.

Participants come away from the workshop with a better understanding of economic approaches such as behavioral, ecological and feminist economics, and with an idea of what it looks like to study ‘pluralist economics’ in which diverse frameworks and ideas are taught alongside one another.

oikos Case Study Competition

oikos encourages students to take ownership of the Sustainable Development Goals so that they are ones developing a sustainable future for the generations ahead.

oikos Jamshedpur provides an opportunity to have an impact on reaching SDGs in an Indian context by opening a call for the Case Study Competition titled “Sustainable Smart City Challenge”.

The case study competition is supported by  JUSCO, a TATA group company responsible for municipal services and civic amenities in Jamshedpur, India. Jusco’s span of operations strives towards providing comprehensive and sustainable solutions for urban infrastructure needs namely power distribution, municipal solid waste management, and engineering and construction.

The case study competition invites solutions and ideas to help JUSCO accomplish Sustainable Development Goals defined by the UN and make Jamshedpur a smarter city.

The competition is open for Indian as well as international participants. Teams of maximum 3 students can participate in the competition. Deadline for submitting  PPT  is February 8, 2018. 5 selected teams will have an opportunity to introduce their ideas on February 10, during the oikos Asia Meet 2018. International teams can present their solutions through VC.
